Departure with our Esperanza Travel guide to the south of Cairo to see the impressive and fertile landscapes of the Fayum oasis. The city is located 110 kilometers south of Cairo. It is not a mirage, but everything is real.
The oasis comprises a vast expanse of land irrigated by canals from the Nile. In Ancient Egypt they already noted the importance of this place. The first visit is to the ruins of the town of Karanis, which is one of the rarest towns of Ancient Egypt. Afterwards we visited the small museum in the Kom Oshim compound.
Then we have to continue towards the ruins of the Roman temple of Qasr Qarun, passing next to Lake Qarun, one of the most important spaces in the oasis. Its saline waters are below sea level.
On the way back along the same path we enjoy lunch on the shores of Lake Qarun. In this place we can appreciate the rich local fauna, especially characterized by a great diversity of birds. After finishing lunch, we continue our way to the Middle Kingdom adobe pyramid of Hawara... Finally, way back to Cairo hotel.
